As we have been travelling around we’ve met up with a lot of other travellers and some locals who are up for a chat.  Here are some of the comments that are hard to forget!

 

Everywhere

“What sort of bikes are these?”

“Moto Guzzis.”

“Never heard of those.”

 

Day 2

“Does it have reverse gear? I know Harley Davidson has one.”

 

Day 3

“Is this a motorbike?”

“Yes.”

 

Day 4

While looking at the tank and reading the logo,

“What type of bike is this?”

“It’s a Moto Guzzi.”

“Is it Japanese?”

 

While looking at the generator,

“Has this got three cylinders?”

 

To Meredith,

“Being a woman, how did you get to like motorbikes?”

“Errr…”

 

Day 5

To Meredith, being curious as to a woman on a bike

“How long have you been riding?”

“About an hour.”

 

Day 6

While pointing to the fins,

“Are these for cooling?”

 

 

Day 7

“It’s been a long time since I’ve seen a decent Guzzi around here”

 

Day 8 & 9

“Can I take a photo of your bike?”

 

Day 13

Talking to a young couple using the free camp sites,

“Sometimes I feel like I’m living in a retirement village!”

 

Day 14

A couple with new Harleys came up to us at a fuel station,

Harley Her, “Oh look a yellow bike – just like mine!”

Harley Him, “And a red one too!”

 

Day 14

We saw them again in the evening after we’d all crossed about 4kms of dirt

Harley Her, “My bike runs really rough.”

Harley Him, “It’s not rough, it’s just firm suspension!”

 

Day 18

“You don’t see a lot of good Guzzis around here, but you do see a lot with dropping tits”

 

Day 19

“I owned a Harley once.  And you know what HD stands for?  Each time you go for a ride it costs a hundred dollars!”

 

Day 20

Chatting to a lady in the laundry and explaining why I only have 8 pegs,

“Yes, we have to be careful of space too.  We’re in a campervan.”

 

Day 20

Looking at a map and talking about roads in the area with an experienced off-road bike rider,

“That road is terrible, the rocks on that road are still bolted to Australia.”

 

 

Day 23

A visiting Italian came up for a chat with Alan

“You are like Cassie Stoner.”

“It makes me proud that you are riding Moto Guzzi.”

 

Day 25

Another visiting Italian came up for a chat with Alan

“Why you riding Moto Guzzi?  You Italiano?”

 

Day 30

Talking to a GoldWing owner and discussing the trials and tribulations of traveling The Cape road.

“Yes, the gravel can be quite hazardous getting in and out of fuel stations.”

 

 

Day 31

To Meredith

“Are you able to manage the bike ok?”

 

Day 35

“Wow! How did you get a matching pair of those?”

 

Day 36

While packing up,

“Easier than catching a horse in the mornings.”

 

Day 41

While watching the lunar eclipse outside the pub with some of the locals,

“It’s when Mars gets in front of the moon or something.”

“I got so dizzy looking at it because it’s spinning so fast.”

 

Day 38

It had been a hot day so M got changed into her civvies while a chap was chatting to Al.

“Look at that! You changed from a bikie into a lovely lady!”

 

Day 41

Another before and after comment.

“Hey, you two looked like bikers before!  Now you look like tourists.”
